Celebrating Nursing Home Week

The American Health Care Association (AHCA), which established National Nursing Home Week in 1967, has chosen this year’s theme to be “It’s a Small World, with a Big Heart” to commemorate a historical time for older adults. This special week was held May 8-14, 2016. It was an excellent time to reflect on our role and how we can better contribute to improving the lives of our residents and clients. It was also a time to celebrate our hardworking employees who have helped to shape Hale Makua Health Services over the past 70 years.

Our activities care partners at both our campuses (Kahului and Wailuku) planned fun games and activities for the entire week that involved staff, residents and clients. It started with honoring our mothers on Mother's Day and ended with a May Day celebration, pictured above is a photo of Adult Day Health client Prince Tevaga performing with his family. Our staff and residents also kicked off Hale Makua Health Services 70th anniversary with a giant inflatable birthday cake and historical photos from the 1940s of volunteers, staff, and facilities that started this organization. It is amazing to see our history and know that our mission and vision of caring for those in our community has not changed over the last 70 years.

Mahalo to our Kahului and Wailuku Activities teams for making National Nursing Home Week exciting for all of us!
