Posted February 16, 2018
Last Friday we celebrated the Lunar New Year with the traditional Lion dance where residents offered the lion a red envelope for good fortune. After the dance, they were treated to wontons and fortune cookies, while they read their horoscope and predictions for the 2018 year of the dog.
The lion was designed and constructed by our very talented Maintenance Director, Mark Souza, a couple of years ago when we started finding it hard secure a lion to dance for our residents. Keeping traditions alive for the kupuna here is an important value within our organization, so for Mark, it seemed like the right thing to do. The lion is complete with eyes that light up and a mouth that opens to accept gifts from those who encounter it. From all of us at Hale Makua, Kung Hee Fat Choy!
