Celebrating Our Aloha Spirit

From May 11 to May 17, 2014, we celebrated National Nursing Home Week. Care partners and residents were already feeling proud from their recent success in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk and they found many creative ways to show that pride. Each day during the week featured a different costume contest, with themes including pajamas, beach attire and cowboys. A favorite theme was “Dress Like a Tourist Day” when residents and care partners put on their biggest hats and carried maps and cameras. Other events from the week included a recipe contest at the Wailuku campus and a Hawaii trivia contest in Kahului.

Both campuses finished Nursing Home Week with May Day Celebrations on Friday, May 16th. Residents and care partners both performed cultural dances and songs in the celebrations. A group of residents and care partners in Kahului showed off the skills they have learned by taking hula classes from a family member of one of the residents (pictured above). The program was followed by a luau lunch with all the delicious Hawaiian favorites.
