The Visitor Industry Charity Walk is a great State-wide event held by the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association. Participating charities keep the money that they raise, plus a percentage of the funds are matched. All funds raised on Maui remain in Maui County to benefit the local community. You have the opportunity to have a percentage of your donation matched by the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association by making a donation here.
In 2013, 2,782 walkers raised a record-breaking $835,557 for Maui County. Our Board Director, Mitch Mitchell, took 3rd Place for Individual Raising the Most, with $12,765. Hale Makua Health Services staff, volunteers and Board members came together to raise an astounding $41,105, and took 3rd Place for Non-Profit Raising the Most.
This year’s 36th annual Hawaii Visitor Industry Charity Walk will be held on Maui on Saturday, May 10 at 7:00 a.m. The start and finish of the 3.1 mile walk is at the War Memorial Soccer Field. Walkers will enjoy entertainment, food and drinks at the aid stations throughout the walk and at the finish.
Our goal this year is to raise $45,000 to help provide care for those Hale Makua residents who cannot afford it. Roughly 85% of the residents who need our long-term care services fall below the State poverty line and are covered by Medicaid, which doesn’t cover the full amount of what it costs to provide round-the-clock care for an individual.
If you’d like to participate in the walk or raise funds on behalf of our organization, please contact our Volunteer & Development Specialist, Hannah Humphrey, at (808) 871-9283 or hannahh@halemakua.org.
