Posted October 09, 2024
Congratulations to Kayla Phillips (pictured left) who was recently promoted to become our first Administrator-in-Training at Hale Makua Kahului!
The Administrator-in-Training (AIT) Program is being offered through Ohana Pacific Health facilities, providing career advancement opportunities for staff members serious about pursuing a career as a Nursing Home Administrator.
Kayla’s goal was always to become an Administrator. She met Hale Makua Kahului's Administrator, Teana Kahoʻohanohano (pictured right), a few years ago for a college assignment she had where she needed to interview someone working in the career that she was pursuing. She began working for Hale Makua as a Unit Helper and then an HIM Assistant. She has since earned her Bachelors and will soon receive her Masters in Business Administration with a focus on Healthcare Management. The AIT Program was introduced to her, and was a perfect fit. Kayla will spend the next year training on all aspects at Hale Makua, shadowing managers and being mentored by Teana.
“I’m looking forward to helping in what capacity that I can, while still bringing joy and fulfillment to not only the residents but myself as well,” says Kayla.
“We are so excited to have Kayla in our canoe here at Hale Makua Kahului!” says Teana. “Kayla started years ago working her summers as a clerk. It was easy to see early on her drive and passion for serving our Kūpuna. So selecting her as our first AIT was a very easy decision. We look forward to watching her grow and being a part of her journey!”
