A heartfelt mahalo to those of you who donated to Gifts 4 Kūpuna, which aimed at providing Christmas presents to all of our residents at Hale Makua. Along with monetary donations, we received donations of t-shirts, word search puzzles, clocks, socks, coloring books, coloring pencils, and blankets. Target Store Maui even caught wind of Gifts 4 Kupuna, and donated a $200 gift card which allowed us to purchase even more gifts for our residents. We also received help from Hawaii Alpha Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter (an organization of former female educators who provide community service) to help us wrap over 300 gifts!
At both Kahului and Wailuku, our Activities staff got busy decorating their areas to create a beautiful space for picture taking with Santa Claus. On the morning of picture day, our nursing staff helped residents look their best for their Christmas portraits. Resident's faces lit up in delight when they saw Santa, and were pleasantly surprised when he handed them a Christmas gift.
For residents who participated in picture taking with Santa, Christmas cards with their photos will be sent to their family. We hope that it will bring some comfort during the holiday season knowing their kūpuna are well loved and cared for at Hale Makua.
