On May 23rd, Long Term Care residents and Day Health clients made their second annual trip to Blossoms for the Brave. The event is held at the County of Maui building in Wailuku on the Friday before Memorial Day. Blossoms for the Brave brings the Maui community together to create beautiful flower lei to be placed on the graves of fallen soldiers on Memorial Day.
Resident William Wimberly was one of the veterans honored at the event. He was delighted to be chosen to announce the number of lei created in an hour.
Hale Makua’s participation in the Blossoms for the Brave event illustrates Eden Alternative Principle #4: “An Elder-centered community creates opportunity to give as well as receive care. This is the antidote to helplessness.”
