The 93rd annual Maui Fair came to town and twenty-five of our residents from Wailuku and Kahului got to join in on the fun during the Special Fair Day on Friday, September 25th. Resident Bill Wimberly, pictured above with Activities staff member Youpha Giovannoni, satisfied his sweet tooth with a cotton candy. All of our residents and volunteers had a lot of fun reliving their childhood on the rides and playing games.

The Special Fair Day gives individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the Maui Fair and all that it has to offer. During the Special Fair time selected rides and games, entertainment, and a picnic lunch are available to the Special Guests free of charge. The Maui Fair, Hale Mahaolu, and donations from businesses and community organizations make this event possible.

Going to the Maui Fair is a special event our residents look forward to every year!

In addition to going to the Maui Fair, ten of our residents participated in this years Hobbies & Crafts Exhibit.  Their wares and artwork were judged and on display throughout the Fair weekend. The residents that received ribbons are as follows: Grace Emmsley-3rd place for her red and gold ribbon lei; Eleanor Gomes-Honorable Mention for her yellow and green eyelash lei; May Cordero-2nd place for her crochet/popcorn lei; Nancy Kawamura-Honorable Mention for her ceramic plate with fruits; James Miller-Honorable Mention for his floral painting. Other participants included Stefania Wojtkow-blue and pink beaded rosary, Melissa Miyamura-ceramic bowl with green dots, Julia Kakihara-pink ceramic pot, Kimie Kawahara-ocean with rainbow painting, and Koon Fook Yen-purple water lily painting.

In the above photo, Nancy Kawamura, Eleanor Gomes, and Kimie Kawahara proudly smile in front of all the resident entries. We are proud of all of our residents that worked hard to create their works of art.
