Posted July 06, 2015
A potter holds a block of clay in his hands imagining the possibilities of what it could become. Full of patience, the potter begins to knead and mold the clay. Slowly it begins to take shape. The potter continues to sculpt the clay, reshaping it along the way, until finally, he is satisfied. Once void of form, it has become a work of art. The clay, without the potter, would not be able to fulfill its potential.
Some of our residents recently had the opportunity to become potters. Residents have been creating ceramic pots that will be used at our upcoming annual fundraiser, Kokua for Kupuna, on September 26, 2015 at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. The ceramic pots that will be placed on the guest tables. Each ceramic pot is as unique and beautiful as our residents.
The Activities staff in our Kahului and Wailuku facilities plan fun and stimulating activities, taking into consideration each resident’s capabilities and interests. Pottery and ceramics is just one of the many activities that residents are able to participate in regularly.
Just as a potter shapes clay into something exquisite and new, our residents mold the types of services, programs, evolving care and continuous efforts that Hale Makua Health Services provides. Our residents are the driving force behind all that we do and we look for every opportunity to incorporate their talents, individuality and spirit. It truly is a partnership between our staff of caregivers and residents to ensure that everyone reaches their full potential.
The Funds raised from Kokua for Kupuna will allow us to continue our legacy of providing care and homes to Maui’s kupuna.
