Hale Makua Kahului and Wailuku have been preparing for Hurricane Iselle throughout the week and are prepared to shelter our nursing and care home residents in place. Adult Day Health by Hale Makua will be open for regular clients tomorrow. Home Health by Hale Makua will be servicing clients tomorrow as long as it’s possible. We ask that employees who are safely able to come into work, come in to work as usual on Friday.
Hale Makua is not a designated community shelter. Below is a list of Maui County Red Cross shelters:
- Baldwin High – 1650 Kaahumanu Ave, Wailuku (Open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7)
- Lokelani Intermediate (pet friendly) – 1401 Līloa Dr, Kīhei (Open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7)
- King Kekaulike High – 121 Kula Hwy, Pukalani (Open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7)
- Hāna High & Elementary – 4111 Hana Hwy, Hāna (Open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7)
- Molokaʻi High – 2140 Farrington Ave, Ho’olehua (Open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7)
- Kilohana Elementary – Kamehameha V Hwy (Open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7)
- Lahaina Civic Center (pets allowed) – 1840 Honoapiilani Hwy, Lahaina (Open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7)
- Lānaʻi High & Elementary – 555 Fraser Ave, Lānaʻi City
Please bring the following to the shelters as it will not be provided for you: toiletry items; food; water; sleeping items; and extra clothing.
Due to Hawaii’s isolation and vulnerability, the Red Cross recommends that people prepare their emergency kits for seven days and bring their emergency supplies with them to shelters. Airports and ports may be damaged by the storm and slow down the resupply process for local stores.
The Red Cross encourages everyone to be prepared before disasters strike: Get a disaster kit, make a plan and be informed.
Get a disaster kit: Every family should have their own disaster kit. As other emergency response organizations have reported, families are asked to bring their own disaster supplies kit to a shelter, if asked to evacuate. Have 7 days’ worth of supplies at home to shelter in place or in a compact portable container to take to a shelter. Some of the items that the Red Cross suggests for disaster kits include the following:
