Both campuses for Hale Makua have furry and feathered visitors, with volunteers from several animal rescue and pet therapy groups. Lately there have been more animals around than usual, thanks to Melodie Ulman.
Melodie is a licensed trainer for therapy animals and their handlers. She has chosen to hold her therapy dog classes at Hale Makua Kahului and she requires that her trainees also visit residents. Pictured above is Melodie’s latest class of therapy dogs and their handlers. They came to Hale Makua on Sunday, June 29, for a “Raise the Woof” celebration.
Welcoming therapy animals to Hale Makua illustrates Eden Alternative Principle #2: “An Elder-centered community commits to creating a Human Habitat where life revolves around close and continuing contact with plants, animals, and children. It is these relationships that provide the young and old alike with a pathway to a life worth living.”
