Residents Have a Ball

The Molokai A Team consisting of Ines Antolin, Solidad Bueno, Edelyn Cabe, Beverly De Guzman, Temmie Faudan, Jordan Kahiamoe, Susie Lising, Irene Parr, Norma Pasalo, Greg Patterson, Monica Rabara, Agustina Rocetes, Amelia Sistoza, and Mabel Sol, had the idea of having smaller personal events for their neighbors. The team did some research by getting to know the residents on their neighborhood, and found out that one resident, Marilyn Maddux, was a ballroom dancer.

On June 27 the “Matinee Ballroom Dance” was held at Hale Makua Wailuku. In addition to music and dancing, care partners brought in food and put up decorations including festive streamers and balloons. Mahalo to all those who helped the Molokai A Team make this very special event possible!

This illustrates Eden Alternative Principle 5: “An Elder-centered community imbues life with variety and spontaneity by creating an environment in which unexpected and unpredictable interactions and happenings can take place. This is the antidote to boredom.” and Principle 6: “Meaningless activity corrodes the human spirit. The opportunity to do things that we find meaningful is essential to human health.”
