The Hilton and Maria Acacio Unemori Fund through the Hawaii Community Foundation has made it possible to award three Hale Makua Health Services employees with scholarships to continue their education in the nursing field. Dianna Directo, Beth Dressel, and Ashley Ramos were each awarded a $500 scholarship to help in their continuing education.
Hilton and Maria Unemori were on hand to present the checks to the three recipients on February 16th. Hilton and Maria realize the difficulty of balancing work, school and family. They hope this scholarship, which goes toward the cost of tuition and/or books, will help to alleviate some of the financial burden for these three women and give them the opportunity to focus on their education. The couple's generous gift is reflective of their commitment to providing quality healthcare to the people of Maui.
Dianna works part time at Hale Makua Kahului while pursuing a Nursing degree at the University of Hawaii Maui College. Beth is currently a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse at our Kahului campus and is working towards becoming a Registered Nurse. Ashley currently works part-time at our Wailuku campus as a Certified Nursing Assistant while attending school full-time to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Each of the scholarship recipients is grateful for the opportunity that this award has given them to continue their education. The education and training they will receive will help them be better care partners to our residents and clients. We congratulate Ashley, Dianna and Beth for their hard work and dedication in achieving their goals, and are very grateful to Hilton and Maria Unemori and the Hawaii Community Foundation for helping them to achieve their dreams.
